Artist, inventor, and master programmer Peter McClard is a pioneer in the field of algorithmic art, i.e. art that is generated with software through the use of algorithms.  Computer-generated art has been increasing in both scope and popularity for years, and digital works by amateur “algorists” are readily available today, but Peter was among the very first people to work in this style and remains, unquestionably, one of the best. It is important to remember that Peter's art is impossible to create any other way so it should not be compared to traditional art creation.

Peter composes his art and photographs artworks with proprietary (and much coveted since he has the only copy) software called Art Fountain, which he designed and continues to develop.  Many of Peter’s works are based on pre-existing photographs, art or illustrations of people, animals, or objects, though he sometimes generates original “fodder” (i.e., input images) for digital recreation.  As with many of the works on this site, Peter often works with iconic imagery of historical figures. He often works with original art, photos and photo compositions as his starting material and will also on occasion create original art based on a photo that then gets input into his unique process, making it impossible to copy.  Also, he has been known to combine photographic art with generated art such as his spectacular Hubbleangelo series.

Because of the mathematical foundation of his work, Peter’s art is captured in the most precise format available—Vector Art.  Vector Art has the ability to scale to any size imaginable with no loss of quality because everything is described as a mathematical formula instead of “pixels”.   These complex master files are then stored securely in an Escrow account from which a final rendering can be made to any specification.
